La Liga is back after the international break and it resumes in action with a big clash in the weekend between Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. Barcelona are coming on the back of a big 4-3 loss against Real Betis while Atletico beat Bilbao 3-2 in their last match.
Head To Head
Both sides have met each other on 162 occasions previously where Barcelona have won 73 times, making it a win percentage of 45 percent; whereas Atletico have won 50 times. For 39 times the fixture has ended in a draw.
Atletico have not beaten Barcelona in their last 6 meetings in all competitions. Simeone has never beaten Barca in 13 League games while at Atletico.
Last time when Barca met Atletico in March they won 1-0 at the Camp Nou, while the score remain tied 1-1 at Atletico’s home in October.
Barcelona: Ivan Rakitic received a red card in his last match against Betis which makes him unavailable for the Atletico clash. Coutinho and Umtiti are back in training after recovering from their respective injuries which gives the team a great boost but the former has been excluded from the squad. Semedo might see himself in the starting line up as Roberto’s lack of impact defensively might force Valverde to seek the service of a natural right back. After the impressive performances against Betis and for Chile, Vidal can be chosen to play from the start given that Rakitic will be absent. Messi, who came back from an injury played against Betis in the last match and he’s going to start against Atletico in all likeliness.
Atletico Madrid: Diego Godin who scored the winner against Bilbao in the last match will miss the match due to thigh injury. His defence partner Jose Maria Gimenez is also likely to miss due to his hamstring injury while Juanfran, who is suffering fomran injured calf has already been ruled out . Lemar, Koke, Lucas Hernandez are other three major names who might sit out as well. Atletico’s star striker Antoine Griezmann is not in his top scoring form as he has only scored 3 goals in La Liga this season. On the other hand Diego Costa is yet to score a goal to break his duck.
