Lucien Favre, a 61 year old Swiss “general” became the BVB head coach on 22nd May 2018 signing contract until 30th June 2020. Favre previously managed OGC Nice, a French club and was very much in the war to win the league 1 title as they finished third position with 78 points.

Bossing the league:
With 50 points in pocket Borussia Dortmund is topping its league. Losing just one match so far this season Borussia Dortmund is the most goal scoring side in Bundesliga. Favre knowing nurturing young bloods has found some potential levelled players like Jadon Sancho, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Abdou Diallo, who are catching eyes this season.

When it comes to attacking with the ball Lucian has adapted his old tactics, which is, when one of the forward is attacking another one is right with him to support while the third player will be right back at them to continue attacking if any player loses the ball. Defensively it’s just opposite. The attacking midfielder drops back almond between the two centre backs. Dortmund, when attacking is backbreaking sometimes. The smooth build up to the play while the two midfielders moving forward just after providing the past to the two centre backs, Witsel or any other player intends to collect the ball and again passing it to the wide men running towards its flank, usually the two full backs.

The disappointment:
Borussia Dortmund has failed to collect the wins in their previous 4 games, recently  losing 3-0 in the hands of English side Tottenham, in Champions League. A big loss at Wembley has put Favre’s side on the verge of exiting the Champions league and it happened just before its previous defeat where Borussia had given up their 3 goal lead to Hoffenheim, drawing 3-3 in Bundesliga. They have conceded 9 goals in their previous 3 matches. The club has not received those 3 points after a win against Hannover on January 26. The club also lacks quality players like Paco Alcacer, Reus, Piszcek which would’ve helped them to turn things around in their favour.

Borussia Dortmund will now face Nunberg in Bundesliga on 19th February. A win is a must to motivate themselves as they will face Bayern Leverkusen which might be a “banana skin” to them.
Not matching the rhythm, Lucien Favre let go players like Yarmanlenko and Castro while Sahin and Sokratis also made their way out. Favre, then brought in Diallo, a 22 year French footballer from Mainz, Axel Witsel from Tianjin Quanjian FC and Paco Alcacer from FC Barcelona. All of them being a successful signing.
Rewinding the time, Tuch was not able to maintain the spark in the team, neither could Bosz or Stoger but Dortmund fans have high hopes this season in Lucian, who is currently doing a fine job in the league. Favre, who is said to be given the soundness to the team, needs to work on players’mental health to avoid more trouble.
