Liverpool finished the 15-16 season at the 8th position in the Premier League table, stood as runners-up in the League Cup and the Europa League. The 16-17 season was not any less disappointing except for the fact that they could manage to book a spot for the Champions League. Klopp has massively underachieved in his stint at the Reds’. With the kind of money, Liverpool has spent much is left desired for the supporters.
After two below-par seasons now it seems Klopp has figured out the way to capitalize on his attacking game which is largely influenced by the heavily touted trio of Salah, Firmino, and Mane. The trident looked dangerous in all competitions, accounting for 91 goals and 38 assists in the last season. They led the team to the Champions League Finals, but Real Madrid did not have any plans to surrender their title to the English side, this also highlights the fact that the problems of the frail defense need to be resolved. Jurgen Klopp stayed one win shy of lifting the most coveted club football trophy which could’ve boosted his resumé greatly.
Although Klopp has much left to prove at Liverpool, he seems to be on track towards his goals as the Reds have had a successful transfer window with new inclusions namely Naby Keïta, Fabinho, Shaqiri, and Alisson added to bolster the squad. Coutinho’s departure has affected the team, but Klopp is confident that he has found the winning formula without him in the team. With the new season approaching, we’ll soon see if he rights his wrongs or not.
