Adrien Rabiot was seeking a move away from the French capital recently and his most likely destination was Barcelona. PSG saw their contract negotiation proposals being turned down repeatedly by the player in the summer.
Rabiot’s relations with the club’s negotiators were not very healthy and he he felt he didn’t receive much support from the club otherwise either. His current contract is due to expire in the June next year, which means he can move to any other club for free after the contract ends.
The relation between the two clubs under discussionhad already turned sour since the Verratti and Neymar’s transfer saga two years back. Barca wanted Verratti but PSG were not ready to let him leave at any cost and therefore convinced him to stay at the club. Thus, Barcelona saw the first ‘L’ coming their way. After that in the same transfer window Barca received another shock when PSG lured Neymar to Paris with promise of high salary and status at the club. The deal happened behind the back of Barcelona and they were angry at both Neymar and PSG beause of their underhand way of operations.
This way, Barca not only did not get what they wanted and instead they were left high and dry after they lost their star man to the Parisiens. Both the clubs have been at loggeheads since.
This time Barcelona were interested signing Rabiot and so much so that they were prepared to hand him a 9 million euros a year deal. But PSG are determined to keep the 23 year old away from the hands of the Catalans; and therefore they have reportedly offered him a salary four times his current one which is equal to Thiago Silva’s wage. Rabiot has been a really good passer of the ball and he has earned 12 Ligue 1 starts this season under Tuchel, only one behind Angel Di Maria’s 13.
Barcelona on the other hand are seeing the likes of Ruiqui Puig and Alena growing. Puig’s assist to Denis Suarez in the match against Cultural Leonesa and Alena’s goal against Villareal further strengthen their case. Alena has already been getting included in first team squads and Puig too seems to be on track to receive his well deserved play time with the first team in La Liga.Besides, Barecelona’s interest in Frenkie De Jong further weakens the potential signing of Rabiot.
In January Rabiot will have only six more months left in his contract, which means he can sign pre-contract with any other club outside of Ligue 1. Hence PSG will multiply their efforts to get the player’s contract renewed.
